On this occasion, I stayed in Downtown Grand’s Gallery Tower, which opened in 2000, has a modern vibe, and is one of the quieter rooms in Downtown Las Vegas. While Fremont Street has a reputation for, on the whole, offering a “lesser”, more “dated” hotel product than resorts on The Strip, the Gallery Tower bucks that trend. On the casino floor, Downtown Grand’s also caters to value-seekers with $1 blackjack and $5 craps (that usually escalates to $10 at night). My go-to destination is their Furnace Bar, where I enjoyed chasing progressive jackpots while simultaneously downing a string of complimentary beers. The pool at Downtown Grand isn’t massive, but the rooftop Cirtus Pool Deck offers good views of resorts along Fremont Street, free yard games, renovated cabanas, and plenty of loungers. Although Downtown Grand is slightly removed from Fremont Street, I love the location. For starters, noise levels are less thanks to the separation, but you’re also steps away from the madness. The Mob Museum is at your doorstep, as is Fremont’s new food court, which is home to a number of meal options that won’t empty your checking account like a $9.99 slice and a drink deal at Fremont Pizza Company and a $5.99 Steakburger, fries, and a small drink deal at Steak N Shake. It’s wild to me that Downtown Grand doesn’t get more love for what they’re doing on the “delivering value front”. Everyone is so busy screeching on social media about how they’re “Never coming back to Vegas!” because of “Corporate Greed” that they don’t realize there are resorts bucking that trend in a big way. If you’re looking for the version of Las Vegas without the “sticker shock”, check out Downtown Grand. Los integrantes del comando armado que realizaron el ataque durante la tarde de hoy jueves en el Casino Royale, ubicado en la Avenida San Jerónimo, de la ciudad de Monterrey, Nuevo León, acabaron con la vida de muchas personas inocentes, sembraron terror en la población y además nuevamente dejaron en ridículo a las autoridades. El ataque es el más violento del que se tenga registro en el estado de Nuevo León, el más sangriento en todo México. Sin duda el jueves 25 de agosto quedará en la memoria de muchos, recordando la ola violenta que diariamente crece y parece no tener control. Un hecho que hace a millones cuestionar a las autoridades, un tétrico escenario que marca la historia en el país. Sin duda, el ataque fue ideado y ordenado desde altos niveles de algún grupo del crimen organizado, los sicarios sabían perfectamente lo que estaban provocando, en sus planes estaba crear terror en la población. Como se informó hace unas horas, un grupo de sicarios irrumpió en el lugar y comenzaron a disparar contra las personas que se encontraban en el Casino Royale, después de varios minutos de balazos, los desconocidos lanzaron algunas granadas de fragmentación que estallaron. El lugar estaba lleno, los clientes en su mayoría eran mujeres, también había embarazadas y señoras de la tercera edad. Algunos sobrevivientes narraron que fueron momentos críticos, de luchar por su vida, corrían, lloraban y al mismo tiempo veían a decenas de personas tiradas, algunas ya sin vida, otras murieron aplastadas. Fueron minutos de verdadero terror y pánico. Decenas de personas resultaron lesionadas, algunas presentaron crisis de histeria y otras víctimas intoxicación, ya que las granadas de fragmentación provocaron que el negocio se incendiara. Hasta el momento se tienen informes de al menos 61 personas muertas. Los sicarios actuaron a plena luz del día, eran alrededor de las 15:15 horas. Ellos pudieron escapar con total tranquilidad, ya que las autoridades tardaron en llegar, como en anteriores ocasiones. Por su parte el alcalde de Monterrey, Fernando Larrazabal señaló que él no era responsable de las acciones violentas, sin embargo el Casino Royale supuestamente estaba clausurado, aunque seguía funcionando. El gobernador Rodrigo Medina prometió que encontraría a los responsables, él no dio la cara, solamente algunas entrevistas vía telefónica. También el Gobierno Federal condenó la violenta acción, Alejandro Poiré indicó que lo conveniente era dejar trabajar a las autoridades locales. Y por si fuera poco, algunas autoridades han intentado decir que en el lugar los delincuentes no realizaron disparos, y que tampoco lanzaron granadas de fragmentación. Sin embargo los testigos señalan que fue un ataque armado. Para las 22:00 horas, la búsqueda de personas al interior del Casino Royale había parado, las autoridades afirmaron que no podían continuar hasta el día de mañana. Familiares de personas desaparecidas se encuentran afuera del negocio, donde los cadáveres han sido enfilados para lograr su identificación. El ataque al Casino Royale dio la vuelta al mundo, medios de comunicación internacionales han informado lo ocurrido y además lo han calificado como un verdadero "Acto terrorista", sin embargo en México las autoridades tienen prohibido, o más no quieren aceptar que sea un acto de ese tipo. Hace unos días Adrián de la Garza, titular de la Procuraduría de Justicia en Nuevo León, optó por decir que los delincuentes no se burlaban de ellos, ni tampoco los retaban, solamente realizaban sus labores dentro de algún cártel de la droga, esto al registrarse actos macabros, ya que en varias ocasiones han colgado a hombres de puentes a plena luz del día en concurridas avenidas. La ciudadanía exige paz ante los hechos sangrientos que afectan a inocentes.
