I hired a car, even though Americans drive on the wrong side of the road, and went to document it alone. Somewhere in the desert was Terrible's Roadhouse, formerly called Gold Strike. While exploring the offices upstairs, I found photos from when the building was operational. This included a large folder of photo slides! I was eager to save and share the images, so I took them with me. I carefully carried the photos and slides for a further two weeks before flying back home to Australia, where I got them scanned. The property originally opened resort was built in 1949 as the first international Hilton Hotel. It was damaged by Hurricane Maria and reopened in May 2019 after a 100-million-dollar renovation. The beachfront hotel overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. San Geronimo Fort, Condado Beach and Parque Luis Munoz Rivera are nearby. There are 652 4-star rooms in 3 buildings spread over 20 floors with Wi-Fi, cable TV, refrigerator, and coffee maker. There are 9 hotel restaurants. You will find a breakfast buffet from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Néctar del Caribe. Bagua Bar is a swim-up bar with food options available for lunch. Mojito's Caribbean Fusion is open from 7 am to 11 pm. Rustica Ristorante (Italian) and Lola's Puerto Rican Cuisine are open for lunch and dinner. Morton’s Steakhouse is open for dinner. There is a Starbucks and an Ice Cream & Cookies Co on site as well. Caribe Hilton states it is the birthplace of the Pina Colada, be sure to stop at the Caribe Bar to enjoy one. Caribe Hilton has an infinity pool, two additional pools, two whirlpools, beach cabanas, and a hammock garden. An outdoor playground and splash fountain are available for children. The beach is protected by a rock jetty creating clear calm water. The area is full of lounge chairs with a floating dock and beach bar. Scuba diving or snorkeling are available at the beach. There is also a tropical garden with a koi pond to feed the fish. You will also find two convenience stores, a gym, tennis courts, and a spa offering massages. Babysitting is available for a fee. The property is wheelchair accessible, 100% non-smoking, parking is available on site for a fee and pets are not allowed.
