Se veía venir, las llamas se comieron lo que era la postal de Necochea o lo que quedaba. Pasadas las 19 horas el fuego se hizo visible sobre las instalaciones del Teatro Auditórium del Complejo Casino, destruyendo todo lo que había en su interior, más la mampostería y la estructura de este espacio que fue sinónimo de la cultura de nuestra ciudad. Varias dotaciones de bomberos trabajaron en el lugar para tratar de sofocar el incendio. También trabajaron en el lugar agentes de Policía y Defensa Civil. Inmediatamente que se conoció la noticia varias personas se acercaron al lugar para expresar su descontento y hasta se improvisó una marcha con bocinas con críticas, mostrando su desazón con lo que sus ojos veían, no los podían creer. Seguramente con el correr de las horas se determinará cómo se inició el fuego. Como ocurrió el 9 de agosto de 2001 las llamas se llevan parte o ya toda la postal de nuestra ciudad. En esa oportunidad se quemó lo que era la sala de juegos. Más allá de la cuestión sobre cómo se incendió este teatro, es necesario recordar que hasta no hace mucho tiempo, alrededor de 2016 el lugar estaba operativo pero hubo decisiones de renovar la concesión a quienes tenían a cargo varios espacios del complejo que tenían mantenido y cuidado el salón de fiestas, la confitería, el bowling y el teatro, que estaba a cargo de Osvaldo Papaleo. Más allá de lo ocurrido hay que recordar que cuando se cayó parte de la mampostería el 3 de noviembre de 2016 se había anunciado que la Ruta del Tango del año 2017 se iba a hacer en el teatro Auditórium, eso no ocurrió ni tampoco se reparó el lugar.
